GET YOUR POPCORN READY: Lions on Terrell Owens: 'He's a beast'
Freak. The words are but two of the ways the Lions described Terrell Owens as they prepared to face the Dallas Cowboys talented but often turbulent receiver today at Ford Field. But heres another way to describe Owens this season: the NFLs leading receiver in yardage. And maybe even one more: understated excellence. As the Cowboys have rolled to an 11-1 record and Owens has steadily marched toward a career year at age 34, the season has lacked the usual T.O. tabloid-style drama. No fighting with teammates, no spitting at cornerbacks, no accidental overdoses. Just T.O. showcasing his skill, torching defenses and making good on the $25-million promise he made last year to Dallas fans when he told them to get your popcorn ready, because it's going to be a show." It certainly has been that this year.

AMD devises telehealth kit for first-responders
N. CHELMSFORD, Mass. AMD Telemedicine (www.amdtelemedicine.com), a telemedicine equipment leader, announced that it has created a Deployable Telemedicine Kit and is working to identify disaster organizations, first-responder teams and medical facilities around the world that would be able to deploy and/or utilize this type of medical equipment in the event of a disaster. With the kits, healthcare providers in the field would have the ability to send photo images of inner ear/nose/throat, trauma to extremities, soft tissue injuries, captured ultrasound images, digital 12-lead electrocardiograms, digital lung capacity reports, and heart or lung sounds. The specialist in the field would then send the information to a medical specialist via satellite, Internet, or Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN), providing an evaluation and/or consultation for these remote victims using live videoconferencing or store and forward applications.
Fugitives can run, but they need not hide
And agencies, citing stretched budgets and staffs, routinely fail to take basic steps to increase the odds that those fugitives will be caught. It’s impossible to determine the extent of the problem because laws and policies keep secret much of the information on those sought on arrestwarrants.Career law enforcement officials said the problems had existed for years with little attention and little consensus on solutions.Nearly all the victims interviewed by the Post-Dispatch said they had not known that the person who harmed them or their families was a fugitive who had been detained and released."They’re basically getting back out on the streets without anything on their record," said Latoya Turner, one of Williams’ victims. "That’s just giving them permission to keep raping and robbing."Technology helpsThe FBI introduced the technology to help catch fleeing fugitives more than 40 years ago.Called the National Crime Information Center, the FBI computer system is a data bank that police agencies across the nation use to track fugitives: crime suspects whom police can’t find, and defendants who skip court or violate probation or parole.Any police agency can enter fugitives’ names, birthdates and other identifying information into the system.
