| Sakic excited to play with Forsberg again
Quenneville learned the art of patience through injuries to Sakic (hernia), Ryan Smyth (ankle) and Paul Stastny (appendectomy and groin) this season. "You're going to be telling us when you're ready," Quenneville said. "We provide encouragement to play, but the players know their bodies and when they say they're ready to go, we'll then decide." In Vancouver on Wednesday, Quenneville approached Sakic and Forsberg to see how they felt about skating on the same line upon Forsberg's return. It wasn't a tough sell. "We all know what Peter can do on the ice," Sakic said. "He's a tremendous hockey player." That's why Ian Laperriere was lobbying hard to be included on that line. In fact, he talked Friday like it was already a finished deal.
Montoya's NASCAR success paves way for new drivers
Montoya had one of the best rookie seasons in recent NASCAR history in 2007. He won a race, ran strong in several others and finished 20th in the Cup standings better than most expected since he was making the difficult transition from open-wheel racing to stock cars. In short, he set a new benchmark for others to follow. There are plenty of followers, too. Fellow open-wheel stars Dario Franchitti, Sam Hornish Jr., Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Carpentier are making the same jump to NASCAR's top series this season. And they are hoping for similar results. "Juan ended up in the top 20 in points and was Rookie of the Year. If I could do that, that's plenty good for me," Hornish said. .
Back up photos on the road
Every minute of footage can fill 100MB or more of storage. To save space, you may want to edit video on the camera to remove the less interesting parts. This kind of feature is available on newer Canon, Olympus, and other cameras. It's no iMovie, but it typically allows you to trim a series of frames from the beginning or end of a clip. Create backups There's a downside to relying solely on media cards for storage: if a problem develops with your card, you could lose all your photos. Flash-memory cards are susceptible to accidental erasure and even corruption. They're also small (especially SD cards), and therefore easy to misplace. That's why it's a good idea to back up images. Here are some options: Transfer to an iPod Using the $29 Apple iPod Camera Connector, you can transfer images from a digital camera to a photo-capable iPod (except the iPod nano, alas) via your camera's USB cable (see “Image Go-Between").
Hughes: Years 1, 2
In an October 2005 editorial endorsing Hughes for mayor, the Leader-Herald noted the Democratic candidate had some fresh ideas. "If city department heads refuse to cooperate with [Hughes], he’d try to remove them, he says," according to the editorial. So far, three department heads have left their jobs under controversial circumstances that involved Hughes. A boisterous critic of the way Hughes’ conducts city business, former 4th Ward Councilwoman Shirley Savage said much of the litigation the city has been involved in recently could be laid at the mayor’s feet. She specifically mentioned the ongoing litigation involving former City Clerk Gary Margiotta, and the recently ended case of suspended Police Chief John Harzinski. Margiotta was not reappointed to his position at a council meeting Jan.
Buzz Briefs: Madonna, Ethan Hawke
The pop star's "Confessions" world tour pulled in $260 million, Forbes said. She also made money from album sales, her fashion line with H&M and a deal with NBC to broadcast her concert performance at London's Wembley Stadium. Forbes.com said it compiled the list by examining concert grosses, merchandising revenue, album sales and other revenue from clothing lines, fragrance deals and endorsements. Barbra Streisand is No. 2 with $60 million, thanks to her comeback tour of North America and Europe. Celine Dion ranks third with $45 million, largely from her successful "A New Day" show in Las Vegas, which she wrapped up in December after a five-year engagement at Caesars Palace. Shakira is fourth with $38 million, followed by Beyonce ($27 million), Gwen Stefani ($26 million), Christina Aguilera ($20 million), Faith Hill ($19 million), the Dixie Chicks ($18 million) and Mariah Carey ($13 million).
9-11: a List of Charges
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is charged with being the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks by proposing the concept to Osama bin Laden as early as 1996, obtaining approval and funding for the attacks from bin Laden, overseeing the operation, and training the hijackers in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He was born in Pakistan's Baluchistan province and raised in Kuwait. _ Waleed bin Attash, better known as Khallad, is alleged to have administered an al-Qaida training camp in Logar, Afghanistan where two of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers were trained. Bin Attash is an alleged al-Qaida operative, believed to have been bin Laden's bodyguard. Authorities say bin Laden selected him as a Sept. 11 hijacker but he was prevented from participating when he was arrested and briefly detained in Yemen in early 2001.
Sugar 'n' nice
I actually enjoy reading most of your posts. Some thinking goes into each one. And I think we must have posted around the same time. So I hope it doesn't look like I was replying to what you were saying about Pombo. I don't know why someone couldn't take money from Indian Casinos? Maybe because of the size of the donation? Arnold does that. Why not Pombo. Or other politicians. I am an independant. So not playing partisan politics. I say vote them all out. Don't really like most of the choices. But I do like it when people do their homework and stop the bob, style, guerilla, tactics. I am not directing that to everyone. Just so you know. .
